HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

With New Year's Eve approaching, the Huntsville Police Department is stepping up patrols to make sure you and your families are safe.

Huntsville police's DUI Traffic Task Force is setting up random checkpoints as well as targeting locations identified as "Hot Spots" due to high crashes and DUI-related activity.

Officers will ask you to show a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration. They'll also be making sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt.

Potential checkpoints include:

  • Memorial Parkway/University Drive
  • Drake Avenue/Patton Road
  • University Drive/Sparkman Drive
  • Andrew Jackson Way/Oakwood Avenue
  • Holmes Avenue/Jordan Lane
  • Airport Road/Whitesburg Drive

These checkpoints will be set up through Jan. 1, and were made possible through grant enforcement money from the state's Traffic Safety Office.
