CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Some call it the "grand-daddy of ideas festivals."
Hundreds flocked to the Charleston Place hotel for an exclusive weekend retreat, known as Renaissance Weekend.
For over 30 years, the event featured innovators from a variety of fields, offering panel discussions and lectures to guests invited to take part in the weekend.
The New Year's gathering in Charleston marks the 100th meeting for Renaissance Weekend participants.
"There's not one political perspective represented, said Vanessa King, who traveled from Boston to attend the retreat.
"There's not one world view represented. It's just fully across the gamut."
The tradition was founded by Philip Lader, chairman of WPP plc, the world's largest advertising and marketing company.
Past participants have included former US Presidents, Oscar and Emmy-winners, as well as CEOs, among others.
