CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston County Sheriff's Office announced Monday it will conduct a number of traffic safety checkpoints on New Year's Eve.

Charleston County Sheriff's Traffic Division and H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) will set up checkpoints on two Charleston roads beginning at 8 p.m. on December 31.

The traffic safety checkpoints will be held on Highway 61 near Drayton Hall Elementary School and at Mikel Drive and Harbor View Road.

Officials say the checkpoints are expected to last several hours.

Deputies are asking the public to use caution when traveling in these areas, and to be alert for stopped traffic and law enforcement officers.
