Coroner: Shooting death at Dorchester home was murder-suicide

DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner announced on Tuesday that two people who were found dead Monday night in a Dorchester Manor Boulevard home was the result of a murder-suicide.

Coroner Chris Nisbet identified the deceased as 32-year-old male Du Xuan Dao, and 27-year-old female Thuy Mong Doan.

The coroner says they both died of single gunshot wounds to the head on Christmas Day.

Investigators believe Dao killed Doan and then shot himself.

According to deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, the two bodies were discovered after authorities were contacted to complete a welfare check around 6 p.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived at the home, which is located in the 300 block of Dorchester Manor Boulevard, the two people were found deceased around 6 p.m.

Neighbor Ottie Plum believes she heard the gunshots.

"Me and a friend of mine, we were sitting at the kitchen table. We heard fireworks. We didn't know it was a gunshot. We didn't know," said Plum.

Another neighbor who asked that we not use his name, suspected something was wrong when he saw the couple's car sitting in the driveway for so long.

"I knew it moves. It was going in and out, but I hadn't seen any type of movement. I hadn't seen her. I had a gut feeling something was wrong, but I couldn't say anything about it."

Deputies were called to the couple's home on December 11 for a domestic disturbance. Dao was arrested for possession of hypodermic needles and syringes.

The investigation is ongoing.

A friend of the couple told us they had a one year old child together and that Dao has a five year old from a previous relationship.
