SULLIVAN'S ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Emergency crews have found a boater who become disoriented in the fog near Sullivan's Island.
The boater apparently hit a sandbar just off of Dewees Island, according to U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Beth Warner.
He eventually left his boat and swam ashore to Dewees Island. A resident there helped him alert emergency crews that he was safe.
No injuries were reported.
The U.S. Coast Guard in Charleston first received reports of a missing boater at about 2:15 p.m. Sunday.
A woman called Charleston County dispatchers and said her husband was boating in the area and became disoriented due to heavy fog. The two later lost contact.
Coast Guard boats and a helicopter were called in to search for man and his 19-foot boat. Charleston County Fire and Rescue boats also responded.
