Some SC, NC cities cancel Tuesday garbage pickup due to cold

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A few western Carolina cities said they are suspending solid waste collection and recycling collection Tuesday because of the dangerously cold temperatures.

The cities of Asheville, Greenville and Mauldin suspended trash pickup with temperatures expected to drop well below freezing on Tuesday.

A Greenville city spokeswoman said collection services will be one day late for the remainder of the week.

Officials with the city of Mauldin said the Public Works Department will run a double route on Wednesday to pick up both Tuesday and Wednesday's routes.

The city of Greenville made the decision in order to protect collection crews from being exposed to dangerously low temperatures.

Asheville officials said garbage trucks were not running Tuesday, but sanitation crews were operating on a delayed schedule. Residents are asked to leave their trash out for crews to collect as soon as sanitation trucks are back in operation.

Curbside Management, Asheville's recycling contractor is also on a delayed schedule. In the event recycled items are not collected Tuesday, they will be collected as soon as trucks are operating.
