Two transported to Georgia burn unit following explosion in Williamsburg County

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

Two people have been transported to the burn unit in Georgia after an explosion Sunday night at a house in Williamsburg County.

It happened at 636 Red Road just outside of Kingstree off Highway 261.

Williamsburg County Fire Chief Randy Swinton said three people were hurt when they tried to light a diesel heater in a double-wide mobile home around 9 p.m.

The heater exploded, and as a result a man and a woman were taken to the burn unit in Georgia by ambulance. According to authorities, it was too foggy for a helicopter to respond to the scene.

Another man received minor burns.

The fire department is investigating to determine what caused that heater to blow up.
