Thief uses squash to silence gunshots fired into gas station

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a thief used a squash to silence the shots he fired from his gun into a gas station on James Island.

On Sunday at 2 a.m., Charleston County deputies responded to the Sunoco gas station on 2019 Maybank Hwy for an alarm activation.

When deputies arrived they noticed that the front left window of the entrance door was broken.

An incident report states that video surveillance caught an unknown subject walking on the property and pointing a gun with a squash on the end of it, and fire what appears to be two shots at the window.

Authorities say the video shows the subject then taking a cinder block and throwing it through the window. The subject is then seen taking a lottery ticket case.

The store manager said 24 booklets of lottery tickets totaling $6,000 were taken.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to call (843) 202-1700 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
