For the third time this season and the first time since Southern Conference play began, The Citadel's Brian White has earned CRONS SoCon Freshman of the Week honors. White was twice named as the league's top freshman in November.
In a week in which he knocked down 12-of-25 (48%) from the floor and led the Bulldogs in rebounds (14), White becomes the first Citadel player ever to win a SoCon weekly award three times in the same season.
White averaged 14 points and seven rebounds against Radford and Chattanooga last week. The Richmond, Va., native opened the week with an eight-point showing against Radford, connecting on 4-of-10 from the field. He finished with a team-high six rebounds (two offensive) against the Highlanders.
In The Citadel's league opener against Chattanooga, White came through with his fourth 20-point performance of the season, converting 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the field and 4-of-5 free throws. He also snagged eight rebounds including four on the offensive glass, one short of his season high.
"Brian has done an outstanding job of making the transition from high school to college and being named SoCon Freshman of the Week for the third time is a testament to his hard work," said head coach Chuck Driesell. "I am confident his development will continue as the season goes along."
The Citadel heads out on a two-game road trip over the weekend that includes stops at Wofford (Jan. 6) and Elon (Jan. 11).
