Useful tips to keep your pipes from freezing from cold temperatures

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - According to Charleston Water System officials, they received about 200 calls from people who had no water Tuesday morning because their pipes were frozen.

Lots of people weren't able to take a shower Tuesday morning, and with a freezing night ahead you want to make sure your pipes don't freeze over tonight.

Here are some useful tips:

1) Let your faucets drip which will help make sure your pipes don't burst.

2) Open the cabinets where your pipes are so they can get some of the heat that's in your home.

3) Turn off any outdoor sprinkler systems, and detach the water hose from your outdoor faucet.

And finally, Charleston Water System tweeted a picture showing that you can buy an outdoor faucet protector at any hardware store and wrap it around your pipe.

If you don't have time to get out to the store Tuesday night, experts say you can tape a towel or rag around the pipe in a pinch.
