Ceremony set for new downtown Charleston fire station

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Dedication Ceremony will be held Thursday for a new fire station in downtown Charleston.

The grand opening of Fire Station 9, located at 1451 King Street, will be held at 12 p.m. The ceremony will feature Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Charleston City Councilmembers, and representatives from the Charleston Fire Department.

The new five bay, two-story station will house fire trucks and a hazmat unit. It will also be the headquarters for the administrative offices of the city's fire chief and her staff, according to a release.

Officials say the station was built to meet or exceed current wind and seismic codes.
