One charged in North Charleston drive-by shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - North Charleston police say a 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an early morning drive-by shooting that sent one person to the hospital.

Winston Dunham was arrested Friday morning and charged with two counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm during a violent crime, failure to stop for blue lights, leaving the scene with property damage, and driving under suspension.

Officials say the shooting took place at the Ashley Shores Townhomes shortly before 1 a.m.

According to a release, two victims were standing outside of an apartment when a silver Dodge Avenger drove by. Dunham, who was driving the car,  reportedly fired shots at the two victims from the passenger window.

Police say both victims were hit, but only one was transported to the hospital. The other victim refused medical attention.

Officers say Dunham was spotted parking his car at a gas station at Reynolds and Rivers. After seeing police, Dunham drove away from the scene, sped through a red light, and crashed into two parked cars after losing control.

Dunham attempted to run away on foot, but was captured, police say. A handgun that was discarded during the pursuit was located.

Dunham is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.
