Greenville Health Systems ask children to not visit during flu season

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville Health System announced on Friday that they want children under 18 to not visit their children's hospital or their women's hospital during the heaviest flu season they've seen in the past six years.

"We are doing this to protect our patients, the community and even visiting children against the spread of seasonal flu," said Michelle Taylor Smith, GHS' vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer.

The hospital said they are requesting children to not visit the Greenville Memorial Medical Campus, as well as the Women's Center on the Greer and Laurens medical.

According to GHS they saw the number of positive flu cases double each of the past three weeks, going from 66 cases in the beginning of December to 293 for the week of Dec. 22.
