Ga. woman killed following highway accident in Colleton Co.

COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Emergency officials say a Friday morning accident in Colleton County took the life of a 20-year-old Georgia woman.

The Colleton County Fire and Rescue Department says at 9:12 a.m. authorities received a report of an SUV accident on I-95 near mile marker 41.

According to authorities, a 2004 Ford Explorer drove off of the highway, over-corrected and lost control. Officials say the SUV then crossed over both northbound lanes, before spinning backwards and striking several trees.

The vehicle received heavy damage and trapped the driver. A report states a 21-year-old man and a 1-year-old boy, who was secured in a child seat, were not injured.

When emergency crews responded to the scene they reported the female driver was found unconscious in the SUV, and was in critical condition.

According to rescue officials, the woman passed away at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
