ETTRICK, VA (WWBT) -

The suspect accused of shooting and killing a VSU student at a student apartment building near campus will appear in court Tuesday.

Brian W. Williams Jr., 19, is charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond.

Last November, police responded to a call of a shooting at a student apartment complex just for students- about a mile away from the VSU campus.

22-year-old Eric Wilkins was found dead, according to Chesterfield Police.

The university issued condolences over Facebook, as students spent the day mourning the loss of one of their own.

Managers at the apartments have asked for police to step up patrols around the area and say they will take additional action on site as necessary.
