CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Two downtown Charleston parking garages are set to undergo a number of upgrades that are designed to help speed up the paying process.
Charleston County parking garages will receive automation software and hardware upgrades over the next few months. The upgrades are expected to be completed by March 5.
The King and Queen parking garage and the parking garage on Cumberland will receive the following upgrades:
- New ticket dispensers at the entrance and new ticket acceptors at the exits
- New signage
- Removal of cashier booths
- Customers will pay prior to returning to their cars at Pay on Foot stations in each garage
County officials say the automation upgrades will make for faster exit times, personnel expenditure savings, and customers will be able to view the total number of available parking spaces at the King and Queen Garage.
Customers may experience delays entering and exiting the garage while upgrades are being performed. Parking staff will be on hand to assist during these delays.
