Beaufort Co. school psychologist resigns amid sexual battery charges

BEAUFORT, S.C. (AP) - A Beaufort County schools spokesman says a psychologist charged with the sexual battery of a student has resigned.

Spokesman Jim Foster tells the Island Packet of Hilton Head ( that 28-year-old Megan Michelle Snipes resigned Jan. 7. That's the same day the county education board was to consider allegations she engaged in a sexual act with a 16-year-old male student at Battery Creek High School.

Snipes was arrested Dec. 21 after a Beaufort woman filed a report with the sheriff's office, accusing her of inappropriate relations with her son.

Deputies say the student and Snipes confirmed they had sexual contact in October. An order from the state education board says Snipes told officers that, in hindsight, the Facebook messages she shared with the teen could be considered inappropriate and "flirty."
