NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Traffic is once again moving on I-526 eastbound after an earlier accident caused major delays Friday morning.
According to traffic cameras, an accident occurred at the bottom of the Westmoreland Bridge before Leeds Avenue at mile marker 14 around 8:15 a.m. The accident caused the closure of one lane, but it has since been reopened.
North Charleston police say the driver of an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed when they clipped another vehicle while attempting to exit I-526 at Leeds Ave. The wreck caused the SUV to drive off the road, ending up in the marsh.
The driver of the SUV was transported to MUSC.
The incident is under investigation.
