Forward Peter Boyd scored a goal and an assist to guide the South Carolina Stingrays (27-10-1-2) over the Florida Everblades (22-12-1-2) 4-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night.
The Stingrays broke open the scoring on the power play midway through the first period when forward Wayne Simpson slipped a shot under the left pad of Everblades goaltender Connor Knapp (L, 20 saves on 23 shots). Forward Igor Gongalsky and defensemanLuka Vidmar added assists.
Forward Jack Downing made it a 2-0 Stingrays lead on the man advantage at 8:34 of the middle frame with help from defensemanJeremy Price and Boyd. The Everblades jumped on the scoreboard moments later off at tally from forward Kyle Bonis at 17:05 lifting a pass from forward Mike Merrifield over the sprawled out Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 24 saves on 26 shots).
Stingrays forward Paul Rodrigues reclaimed a two-goal advantage at 6:28 of the third period rifling a shot over the glove of Knapp from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Forward Lindsay Sparks picked up the lone assist. Former Stingrays forward Trevor Bruesspulled the contest back within one at 13:54, but Boyd sealed the victory with an empty-net marker with 37 seconds remaining in the game. The Stingrays finished the night 2-for-5 on the power play while the Everblades went 0-for-4.
