Senate candidate defends AR-15 rifle offer

Georgia Congressman Paul Broun defended his stance on the Second Amendment Sunday night after a campaign event in Sandy Springs. The candidate for U.S. Senate has made headlines in recent days after he offered supporters a chance to win an AR-15 rifle. Broun said he made the offer to illustrate his support of a person's right own firearms.

"We've had a tremendous response" to the offer, said Broun, an Athens native with six years of experience serving in Congress.

"What I'm doing is just pointing out the fact that we have our constitutionally protected, constitutionally guaranteed rights, and I believe very firmly in those," he said.

One of Broun's campaign aids said "tens of thousands" of people from across the country have signed up to win the rifle.

Broun will find out how well his campaign strategy worked when voters head to the polls for the primary elections in May.
