School districts announce closures, delays

District school officials with Charleston County, Berkeley County and Dorchester District 2 have announced half day schedules for their schools on Tuesday in anticipation for the expected wintry weather.


According to CCSD officials, the district will observe a four hour school day Tuesday. Schools will begin Tuesday at their regularly scheduled times, and will release four hours later. The complete arrival and dismissal schedule for Charleston County schools will be

by 4:30 p.m.

All after school events are canceled.


According to BCSD officials,

the district will operate on a half-day dismissal schedule on Tuesday.

There are no schedule changes expected for early care programs or arrival times. A press release states after-school activities and events, including ball games, club meetings, practices, day care, etc. for Tuesday are canceled.

The January 28, 2014 regular School Board Meeting has also been canceled and rescheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2013, 6:30 p.m.


Dorchester School District 2 officials say their schools will be on an early release schedule for Tuesday.

Schools will be dismissed on the following schedules:

•    Givhans Alternative Program    9:30 a.m.

•    Elementary Schools        10:30 a.m.

•    High Schools            11:30 a.m.

•    Middle Schools            12:30 p.m.

•    Rollings Middle School        12:00 p.m.

All pre-Mk and mid-day programs are canceled along with after school and evening

activities.  Extended day will be open until 2:00 p.m.

Dorchester Academy will be closed January 28-29.


DD4 schools will be closed Tuesday, January 28th and Wednesday, January 29th.


According to school officials, Hampton County School District 2 will implement its early release schedule on Tuesday, January 28.  Est ill Elementary School will begin dismissal at 11:30 a.m., and Est ill Middle and High Schools will begin dismissal at 12:15 p.m.

On Wednesday, January 29, Hampton County School District 2 will be closed due to the severe wintry weather.


School officials say due to the pending winter storm, all Horry County public schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

District officials say they will continue to monitor forecasts and will make a decision about school on Wednesday by mid-day tomorrow.


Williamsburg County schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.


All schools and offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will be a delayed opening (time to be determined).


Schools and administrative offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. All school activities are canceled for Tuesday and Wednesday.


Officials with the Beaufort County School District say they are continuing to monitor weather conditions due to forecasts calling for a wintry mix of sleet and snow Tuesday night.

According to school officials, current plans are to hold a regular school day on Tuesday, although parents will be notified if rainy conditions occur and temperatures fall toward freezing earlier than expected.  If temperatures fall earlier than expected, an early dismissal might be necessary.


Officials with GCSD say there will be no school on Tuesday, January 28. A decision will be made on Tuesday afternoon regarding a potential chance in Wednesday's school schedules.


American College of the Building Arts - Will close at 12 p.m. Tuesday. Wednesday's schedule is TBD

Centura College will be closed Tuesday, January 28.

College of Charleston is canceling all classes and activities for Tuesday at all campuses. Campus offices will resume normal schedules as soon as weather conditions permit safe travel. All resident halls will remain open. The library will be closed.

Charleston School of Law will be closed Tuesday.

The Citadel campus will close at noon Tuesday. No decision made on Wednesday.

Charleston Southern University has announced classes will be canceled as of Monday at 3 p.m. The campus will officially close for faculty and staff at 5 p.m. Monday. Beginning Tuesday, check the CSU web site and Twitter (@buckler) for updates on when the campus will reopen


Students at the Dorchester County Career and Technology Center will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Nothing has been decided yet for Wednesday.

ITT Technical Institute N. Charleston campus will close at 12:30pm on January 28, 2014.

Miller-Motte College in North Charleston will close at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

MUSC classes and related academic activities on the university campus will be canceled for Tuesday.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Southeastern Institute - The Charleston campus will dismiss classes at noon on Tuesday. Evening classes will be canceled.

SC State University will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and will open at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Trident Technical College officials say all their campuses will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

USC Calefactive officials say classes will be canceled and offices will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The university will continue to monitor conditions, and the decision to have a late start or cancellation on Thursday will be determined at a later time.

Virginia College Charleston campus will be closing at noon on Tuesday.


Ashley Hall - School will operate on the following early dismissal schedule Tuesday, with all after school activities canceled:

  • EEC Half-Day students: 11:00-11:15am
  • EEC Full-Day students: 11:30am-12:00pm
  • Kindergarten: 11:30am
  • Grades 1 and 2: 11:45am
  • Grades 3 and 4: 12:00pm
  • Grades 5-12: 12:15pm

Cathedral Academy School and Pre-School will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

Capers Prepatory Christian Academy - Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Children's Noon on Dorchester Road in North Charleston will close at 11 a.m. Tuesday Colleton Prep Academy closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Charles Towne Montessori will close at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday

Charles Webb Center will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Curious Minds Day School in St. George will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

First Baptist School - The downtown Charleston school will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

James Island Christian School - Lower school dismissal at 11:30 a.m., upper school dismissal at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday. No after school activities.

Live Oak Little Schools - Early dismissal Tuesday at 11 a.m. and closed on Wednesday.

Lowcountry Leadership Charter - Noon dismissal. Closed on Wednesday.

Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Learning Center will close at 11 a.m. Tuesday

Palmetto Christian Academy will dismiss students at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Pinewood Prep will dismiss at 1 p.m. Tuesday. There will be no after-school care, athletics, or activities on Tuesday.

Students at Ridge Christian Academy in Summerville will be dismissed at noon, and daycare will close at 1 p.m. The school and daycare will be closed on Wednesday.

Trident Academy will have an early dismissal Tuesday at 11:30 a.m., and will be closed Wednesday.

Van Buren Academy closing at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and closed on Wednesday.
