Temperatures remained incredibly cold Tuesday night. Temperatures are still in the deep freeze.

Everyone is encouraged to stay in place unless it's an emergency. Travel will be hazardous and more drivers will only add to the problems. Essential services were having trouble getting around this afternoon, and no one wants to get stuck on the roads as temperatures drop into the single digits in some areas.

Drive to Work: Most places are closed on Wednesday. If your place of business is open and you have to go into work, take it very slow and be careful. If you can at least wait until 10 a.m., the situation will improve slightly once there is some sunshine on the roadways. Keep in mind - it will still be very slick.  The DOT will have had time to work on them some.

Brian Davis with ALDOT says you shouldn't even attempt the drive in the morning. He says because of all the abandoned cars on the roadways, it's been difficult Tuesday night to sand and clear the roads.

He says if drivers can stay off the roads in the Wednesday morning, ALDOT and emergency workers can treat the roads and possibly have them in passable condition by lunchtime.

Noon-4 p.m. Wednesday: Conditions could improve. Temperatures won't reach above freezing and will be in the upper 20s.  But, with the absence of precipitation and plenty of sunshine, we should see the roads heating up and some of the ice thawing. There will still be some slickspots.
