School districts announce Thursday schedule change

Posted: Updated:
ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Because of continued dangerous road conditions, Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five schools will be closed on Thursday, a district spokesperson said this afternoon.

Officials said the decision was made due to icy conditions that remain on rural roads throughout the district.

"The weather forecast indicates that temperatures will fall into the teens overnight with little opportunity for thawing or improved conditions until late afternoon on Thursday," stated a news release from the district. "These weather conditions impair the ability of school buses, parents, and students to reach school safely."

The closure applies to all regular classes and after-school activities.

Lexington County School District One, Lexington-Richland 5, Richland One and Richland School District Two will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday.  Students and staff should report two hours later than their normal schedules.  Bus service will be delayed two hours.

In Lexington One, child development classes for 3 and 4-year-olds will not meet Thursday.

The University of South Carolina has announced the Columbia campus will open at 10 a.m. Thursday.  All classes scheduled to start before 10 a.m. are canceled.
