Traffic slow moving along I-526 following major delays - Live5News.com | Charleston, SC | News, Weather, Sports

Traffic slow moving along I-526 following major delays Thur. morning

Traffic is beginning to get back to normal along Interstate 526 following a morning of heavy traffic that caused major traffic issues with drivers experiencing delays leaving Mt. Pleasant and Daniel Island.

SCDOT cameras show Interstate 526 traffic beginning to get back to normal in both directions leading up to the Don Holt Bridge.

Westbound lanes were stalled the most Thursday morning, with traffic backing up as far as Long Point Road. Earlier in the day, crews had also removed a disabled vehicle that was causing issues near the Don Holt Bridge.

The Don Holt was closed Tuesday night and remained closed for much of Wednesday as crews worked to salt and sand the icy bridge. The Ravenel Bridge remains closed Thursday morning, adding to the increase in traffic on the Don Holt.

According to the SCDOT, the earlier stalled vehicle was on I-526 westbound near mile marker 19 and the North Rhett Avenue exit.
