COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Colleton County deputies say a 21-year-old was arrested early Friday morning in connection with a gas station shootout that took place back in December.

Charlie Martin was arrested in Walterboro and charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Deputies say the shooting took place at the Ashepoo Grocery gas station on Ace Basin Parkway in Green Pond on December 10, 2013.

According to a release, two groups of people in two separate vehicles exchanged gun fire in the gas station's parking lot. The groups then left the scene.

Deputies say one of the vehicles involved in the shooting was stopped shortly after the incident on Green Pond Highway. Four suspects were in the vehicle, one being a 19-year-old suffering from two gunshot wounds. He was treated at Colleton Medical Center.

Officials say the second vehicle used in the incident, which was previously reported stolen, was located at a nearby residence.

The shooting was related to local gang activity, authorities say.
