The South Carolina Stingrays (29-10-1-2) erased a two-goal deficit to defeat the Orlando Solar Bears (22-15-1-2) 4-2 on Ride CARTA Night and Family Four Pack Friday at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday evening.
The Solar Bears started the scoring 9:30 into the contest when forward Mike Duco banked in his fourth goal of the season off the right pad of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 27 saves on 29 shots) from the left-wing corner. Moments later, forward Jacob Cepis capitalized on the power play to make it 2-0 at 11:18.
The Stingrays started the comeback at 6:41 of the second period as forward Patrick Gaul tapped a pass from defenseman Drew Baker past the outstretched right pad of Solar Bears netminder Cody Reichard (L, 24 saves on 28 shots). Less than a minute later, forward Igor Gongalsky struck shorthanded to tie the game with his sixth goal of the season from forward Luke Greiner at 7:24. Forward Peter Boyd put the Stingrays on top at 18:44 completing a quick rush with forward Paul Rodrigues and Baker.
Rodrigues sealed the victory with his fourth goal of the season at 14:50 of the final frame stealing the puck away from Solar Bears defenseman Blake Kessel a slipping a shot under the glove of Reichard. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play while the Solar Bears went 1-for-5.
The Stingrays host the Greenville Road Warriors on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
