CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston Police say a traffic stop that began near West Ashley led to the Ravenel Bridge being shut down for more than an hour Friday night.
Charles Francis with the Charleston City Police Department says officers attempted to pull over a suspect near the intersection of Northbridge and Dunbarton Drives just outside of West Ashley.
According to Francis, the suspect did not stop and officers did not chase him.
Francis says just before 11 p.m., the suspect called Charleston Consolidated Dispatch to tell police he was on the Ravenel Bridge.
Traffic was re-routed away from the scene until the suspect was taken into custody and a tow truck picked up the suspect's vehicle.
Francis says the suspect is accused of making threats towards others.
The suspect's name has not been released.
The incident remains under investigation.
