Locked door foils Dollar General armed robbery

A potential armed robbery was thwarted Wednesday night after deputies say the suspect was unable to get past a locked door.

According to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called out to the Dollar General on Highway 17 in Hollywood just before 9 p.m. for an attempted armed robbery.

Officials say employees were closing up the store, when the suspect, who was armed with a handgun, tried to get through the door.

Deputies say the door was already locked, and employees refused to open the it.

The suspect left the scene on foot.  No one was hurt.

According to deputies, the Charleston County K9 Unit responded, but was unable to locate the suspect.

The investigation continues.
