Hazmat clears scene, Traffic moving again on Rivers Ave.

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Authorities are investigating after a suspicious package containing a white powder-like substance was discovered at a business on Rivers Avenue.

According to the North Charleston Fire Department, the packaged was discovered at 7011 Rivers Avenue around 3 p.m. The business is across the street from Trident Technical College.

Officials say the Charleston County Bomb Squad has been called to the scene.

North Charleston police say two eastbound lanes on Rivers Avenue near the business have been closed, and all four lanes in both directions are expected to be closed when the bomb squad arrives.  

Authorities say the substance discovered at Lowcountry Property Management and Sales has been cleared by hazmat and taken into evidence by North Charleston Police.

Crews are working to clear the scene.
