N. Charleston cop, 70-year-old hospitalized following accident

A North Charleston police officer and a 70-year-old man have been hospitalized following a Thursday night accident on Dorchester Road.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 10 p.m. on Dorchester Road at St. Allen Street.

Troopers say the man was traveling west on Dorchester Road and trying to turn left on St. Allen Street when the vehicles collided.

The officer was traveling east on Dorchester Road, according to troopers.

Both drivers were taken to MUSC, and officials say neither were wearing a seatbelt.

Highway Patrol is investigating, along with the Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
