CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Fire Department recently welcomed three new fire engines to its fleet.

The three new Pierce Arrom XT fire engines are replacing a 1994 model at Central Station on Meeting and Wentworth, a 1994 model at Station 16 in West Ashley, and a 1997 model at Station 13 on James Island.

"The addition of these three engines continues the City's commitment to upgrading the fleet with state of the art apparatus," said Fire Chief Karen Brack in a statement.

Brack says the new engines will provide increased firefighting capacity, improved safety features, and equipment upgrades.
