GEORGETOWN, SC (WCSC) - Georgetown County Deputies say a body that was discovered in the water near Goat Island Saturday afternoon is believed to be a boater who went missing last month.
Deputies say the United States Coast Guard recovered the body of a while male near Goat Island around 1:30 p.m.
Although authorities are waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine the identify of the body, deputies say they believe it is Keith Sullivan, a boater who was reported missing on January 12.
Officials say the 45-year-old man had been living on a boat which is anchored in the Sampit River near the town clock on Front Street in Georgetown.
The sheriff's office says Sullivan was last seen on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 at 12:00 a.m. on his boat the 'Saga' and was reported missing Wednesday.
Deputies say articles of clothing similar to those described as being worn by Sullivan were found January 17 on Goat Island at the mouth of the Sampit River.
Authorities describe Sullivan as a white male, 5'9" and 160 pounds.
Investigators are asking anyone who knows of Sullivan's whereabouts or has any information to call the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office at (843) 546-5101.
