Coroner identifies victim in fatal N. Charleston hotel shooting

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - The coroner's office has identified a man who was murdered at a hotel in Rivers Avenue Monday afternoon.

Authorities say Markay Deveaux died following a shooting at the Siesta Motor Lodge at 4044 Rivers Ave.

Authorities say two male subjects were involved in some type of altercation in the parking lot when the suspect, 57-year-old Walter Graham Jr.,  took out a handgun and shot the victim in the abdomen.

Investigators say Graham was spotted walking away from the scene, and was apprehended by police. A hand gun was found in his right pocket.

The victim was transported to MUSC in serious condition and later died as a result of his injury.

According to police, the victim and Graham's daughter were involved in a relationship.

Graham has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime. He is being held at the Charleston County Detention Center.

Deveaux was transported to MUSC where he later died of a single gunshot wound.
