TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Authorities arrested eight suspected smugglers in unrelated incidents resulting in the seizure of more than $605,000 in marijuana.

Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents first arrested a suspect who authorities said attempted to smuggle 10 bricks of marijuana concealed in the factory air conditioner unit and speaker box of a Chevrolet Suburban through the State Route 80 checkpoint near Tombstone on Jan. 31.

The next day, agents stopped a GMC truck authorities said was carrying more than 123 pounds of marijuana. Agents found the driver to be in possession of small amounts of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and prescription drugs, according to a news release.

Later in the week, two drivers reportedly did not stop for border agents in separate incidents. The first incident on Feb. 2 near mile marker 283 on Interstate 10 led to the arrest of 11 illegal immigrants, officials said.  Two days later in Douglas, agents stopped the vehicle and found 149 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.

Douglas Border Patrol agents stopped the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe on Feb. 5 and discovered seven bundles of marijuana, worth almost $82,000; a loaded .44 magnum revolver and six rounds of ammunition, according to a news release.

The same day, agents at the State Route 191 checkpoint stopped a Ford F-250 pickup truck with two suspects attempting to smuggle more than 139 pounds of marijuana and 45 rounds of ammunition, the release stated.

Lastly, agents found two illegal immigrants on Feb. 6 in Sonoita, north of Gardner Canyon Road, and seized 12 bundles of marijuana weighing approximately 624 pounds.

Authorities arrested all of the suspects and seized the 1,200 pounds of marijuana, vehicles, weapon and ammunition.
