Meeting St. closed after 18-wheeler strikes utility pole

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Charleston police say a portion of Meeting Street has been closed to traffic after a hit-and-run involving an 18-wheeler.

Police say a semi-truck struck a utility pole at Meeting and Wolfe Streets, and then left the scene of the accident. SCE&G outage maps show 66 customers are without power in the area of the accident.

Traffic is being diverted as SCE&G makes repairs.

According to SCE&G officials, the repairs could take up to three and a half hours. They estimate the repairs will be finished around 3 p.m.
