Power companies prepare for the winter storm's icy punch

NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) - SCE&G officials say they're ready for the icy punch this winter storm could bring.

Contract crews from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana have come to South Carolina to assist with power restoration efforts. Public Affairs Manager Kim Asbill says most of the crews will report to the Columbia area and Upstate region.

"You know, we're prepared year around for things like this," said Asbill. "We have a plan and we're putting that plan into action so everyone has a rule. It's all hands on deck when a storm comes in. It was that way two weeks ago and we're prepared again this time around, as well."

SCE&G officials are urging costumers to remain patience through the storm. They have workers in the call center working 12-hour shifts.

Berkeley Electric is also making all necessary preparations for the storm.

Officials say, in the event of outages, all crews are on standby and are prepared to work around the clock until all members have their service restored.
