The South Carolina Stingrays (30-12-1-3) fell to the Orlando Solar Bears (25-16-1-2) 5-2 at the Amway Center Tuesday night. Forward Peter Boyd and defenseman Drew Baker provided goals for the Stingrays.
Boyd kicked off the scoring 1:04 into the game off a breakaway. Forward WayneSimpson forced a turnover off of Solar Bears defenseman Bryce Aneloski's stick and poked it to Boyd at center ice who beat goaltender Tyler Beskorowany (W, 25 saves on 27 shots) between the legs. Orlando tied the contest moments later on the power play when forward Mickey Lang fired a pass from forward C.J. Severyn over the pads of Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (L, 23 saves on 28 shots). Lang put the Solar Bears up 2-1 at 12:25 with his ECHL-leading 24 goal of the season. With 54 seconds to left in opening period, Solar Bears forward Tyler Murovichclaimed a two-goal advantage.
Lang completed the hat trick at 10:24 of the third period and added his fourth marker of the contest at 11:42 on the power play to make it 5-1. Baker completed the game scoring with a power-play goal at 14:25 with help from Boyd and defenseman Scott Langdon. South Carolina finished 1-for-4 on the man advantage while the Solar Bears went 2-for-3.
The Stingrays wrap up a three-game road trip Thursday, February 13 at 7:00 p.m. against the Solar Bears at the Amway Center and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Sunday, February 16 for Kid's Day and Princess and Pirates with Blackbeard's Cove at 3:05p.m.against theFlorida Everblades!
