Williamsburg Co. sheriff indicted for fraud

COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - The sheriff of Williamsburg County has been indicted for fraud following an investigation by the FBI, according to United States Attorney Bill Nettles.

Sheriff Michael L. Johnson, 38, has been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The maximum penalty for the charge is twenty years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.

Lester L. Woods, 48, of Columbia was also charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Officials say the case was investigated by the FBI.
