GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Prayers, memories and light for a man who loved ones say lit up a room.
"My son has a smile; you could see it coming a mile away."
"Just want people to know Vante was a very, very kind person."
Investigators say 20-year-old De'Vante Hill was shot to death last Saturday just outside of Colorado Springs. His cousin says Hill moved there about a year ago to be closer to his mother and younger brothers and to finish high school. That wasn't all he had planned.
"There was nothing more that he wanted in life was to be a good family man and to one day have kids of his own," says his cousin Shalonna Linen.
Few details surrounding the case have been released. Family and friends say the unknown has made the ordeal even tougher.
"We all think about it every night, and we just ask why," says DeAlvin Pryor, a friend of Hill's. "Why him? Why so early?"
"I wake up to it, and I close my eyes to it every second of my life since it happened," says his father Paul Bryant Jr. "It doesn't make sense to me."
Hill's father says he heard from his son just a couple of days before he was killed.
"My son was a quiet person. He was a jokester among few. He was a sweet guy. He was very compassionate to himself."
