The SouthCarolina Stingrays (32-15-1-3) toppled the Evansville IceMen (24-17-3-6) 3-2 inthe shootout in front of 6,485 on the 8th Annual Pink in the Rink presented byEast Cooper Medical Center benefiting Susan G. Komen Lowcountry at the NorthCharleston Coliseum Saturday night.
Stingraysforward Kyle Bodie broke the scoreless tie 1:38 into the second periodtapping in a loose puck under IceMen goaltender Garrett Bartus (SOL, 33saves on 35 shots) after forward Wayne Simpson's shot clipped off hisblocker. Forward Peter Boyd made it a two-goal advantage with histeam-leading 18 goal of the season catching a pass from Bodie and ripping itover the glove of Bartus from the top of the right-wing circle. Forward PaulRodrigues added the second assist.
Goaltender MaxStrang (W, 10 saves on 12 shots) started the third period for the Stingraysafter starting goalie Jeff Jakaits (21 saves on 21 shots)suffered an injury in the middle frame. The IceMen started the comeback midwaythrough the stanza when forward Kellan Tochkin deflected a shot from theright-wing point between the legs of Strang for his fifth goal of the season.Former Stingrays forward Dylan Clarke knotted up the contest at 15:57 toforce overtime and eventually the shootout. Forwards Jack Downing andSimpson capitalized and Strang stopped all four shooters faced to seal thevictory. The Stingrays ended the game 0-for-2 on the power play while theIceMen went 0-for-3.
