BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County School District Board voted Tuesday night to use the Memorial Day holiday as a make-up day for students after extreme winter weather resulted in multiple school days being canceled earlier this year.
Susan Haire with the Berkeley County School District says board members voted to add three make-up days to this year's school schedule. Students will now have a full day on March 21, April 21, and Monday, May 26, which is Memorial Day.
March 21 was originally a half day for elementary and middle schools, and April 21 was a scheduled teacher work day.
Haire says a total of four days of instruction were missed.
School districts throughout the Lowcountry canceled multiple days of school earlier this year due to extreme winter weather in January, and again in February.
