Police: Person okay after falling into manhole in downtown Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston Police Department say a person who fell into a manhole in downtown Charleston Wednesday night is okay.

Charles Francis with the CPD said the person fell into the manhole in the area of America and Johnson streets at 9:21 p.m.

Authorities say the person was rescued by the fire department and taken to the hospital.

According to emergency officials, crews with the fire department, police and EMS responded to the incident.

Witnesses on scene reported that emergency crews rescued an adult male from the manhole.
