HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Two shrimp boats that ran aground in a creek near Hilton Head Island last August are finally being removed.

The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/1bLBj3n ) that the work of dismantling the boats began this week and is expected to be completed in 40 days.

The boats got stuck in Jarvis Creek when one was pulling the other from a dock Aug. 14 and both ran ground. The Town of Hilton Head is paying a contractor $157,000 to have the boats removed.

An oil boom has been placed around the site to catch residual fuel, oil and transmission fluid that may leak from the two boats. The Coast Guard emptied the boats' fuel tanks shortly after they went around.
