Oysters, Mullets, and Princesses highlight this week's 5 Around Town

CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -

If you're looking for a good way to kick off March, we have a few different things to check out in this weekend's 5 Around Town segment.

PET HELPERS OYSTER ROAST

Pet Helpers is inviting you to "Shuck your paws off" at the Charleston Visitor Center Bus Shed Saturday night. The 13th annual Pet Helpers Oyster Roast is from 7-11 p.m. Saturday, March 1st. The fundraiser event includes oysters, other food and drinks, and live music. The all-you-can eat tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for kids if you purchase ahead of time. The price goes up $5 at the door. It's a pet-friendly event and your dogs get in free. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit shuckyourpawsoff.com.

MULLET HAUL

If you think you have what it takes for a "Business in the front, party in the back" challenge, head to the Mullet Haul Equestrian Center at James Island County Park. The Mullet Haul includes both 5-mile and 10-mile runs Saturday, March 1, 2014. Registration for both runs is open on race day from 7:00-8:00 a.m. The races start at 8:30. Runners are encouraged to get in the spirit by sporting their mullets - real or fake. All the race details can be found by Clicking here.

CAROLINA CHALLENGE CUP

The Carolina Challenge Cup continues with another a pair of soccer matches Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The doubleheader starts Seattle Sounders FC vs. D.C. United at 5 p.m. followed by the Charleston Battery vs. Houston Dynamo at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are available, starting at $15. Check out charlestonbattery.com to find out more.

CINDERELLA DAY

Prom season is right around the corner and it's time for Lowcountry girls to prepare. The North Charleston Dream Center is ready to turn every girl into a princess. The annual Cinderella Day is Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Girls will be able to find a FREE dress, shoes, and accessories during the event. Hundreds of girls are expected and it may take a while, so food will be served on site. But that's the price you pay to be a princess! To find out more, go to cinderelladaycharleston.com.

    One person is dead after an overnight motorcycle accident in Berkeley County. The accident occurred on Highway 35, just outside of the St. Stephen area, shortly before 10 p.m. Friday night. The driver was traveling north on Highway 35, when he veered off the right side of the road and crashed into a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene.     Local fire crews responded to a structure fire early Saturday morning. The fire occurred in the 1900 block of Boeing Avenue, not far from the section of the Stono River near Wappoo Road.
