Stingrays Create Opportunities; Fall to Reading 4-0

The South Carolina Stingrays (33-16-2-3) fell to the Reading Royals (32-19-1-1) 4-0 at Santander Arena Friday night to kick off a six-game road trip.
Royals forward Josh Brittain broke the scoreless tie 19 seconds into the middle frame lifting a shot over the glove of Stingrays goaltender Allen York (L, 28 saves on 32 shots) from the top of the left-wing circle. Moments later, former Stingrays defenseman Brett Flemming made it a 2-0 Royals lead at the 54-second mark.
In the final period, the Stingrays fired a game-high 16 shots on Royals goaltender Brandon Anderson (W, 33 saves on 33 shots), but could squeak one into the back of the net. Forward Julien Cayer grabbed a three-goal Royals lead at 9:25 and forward T.J. Syner wrapped up the scoring at 13:52. The Stingrays finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play while the Royals went 0-for-1.  
The Stingrays continue a season-long six game road trip tomorrow, Saturday, March 1 in Elmira, New York against the Elmira Jackals at 7:05 p.m. at First Arena and return to the North Charleston Coliseum on Saturday, March 15 for Lowcountry Food Bank Night at 7:05 p.m. against the Gwinnett Gladiators.
