The Citadel's White Garners All-Freshman Team Honors
CHARLESTON, SC -
After earning three Southern Conference Freshman of the Week honors over the course of the season, The Citadel's Brian White was named to SoCon All-Freshman team by both the league's coaches and media.
White joins Cameron Wells, Harrison Dupont and Matt Van Scyoc as the only freshmen to be named to both teams. White also owns the distinction of being the first Citadel player ever to win a SoCon weekly award three times in the same season.
The Richmond, Va., product enters the SoCon Tournament having hit 142-of-264 (53.8%) from the field. He also tops The Citadel in total rebounds (178), offensive rebounds (51) and is third in scoring (358 points). Defensively, White has made his impact felt with a team-high 27 blocked shots.
Against SoCon opponents, White was the Bulldogs' most effective shooter (52.6%) by virtue of hitting 61-of-116 from the floor. He posted a team-high 14 blocks against league opponents, including three at UNCG on Jan. 16.
White opened his freshman campaign with double figures in points in 11 of the first 14 games of the year, including back-to-back 20-point outings against VMI and Army at the season-opening All-Military Classic.
His string of nine double figure performances from Nov. 21-Dec. 29 is the third longest by a Citadel freshman since the turn of the century.
White has placed himself alongside Matt Newman (1994-98) as the only Bulldog freshmen to rank in the top 10 in points, defensive rebounds, total rebounds, field goals made, free throws made, blocks and minutes played among first-year players.
