Bucs fall in midweek action at Georgia, 14-5


Georgia scored in six different at-bats to down Charleston Southern 14-5 in non-conference action on Wednesday night at Foley Field. 

Charleston Southern falls to 10-4 on the year, while Georgia improves to 7-6 overall. 

CSU's Zack Hagaman had three hits and Chase Shelton had a two-run double, but CSU couldn't overcome a five-run third inning by the Bulldogs. Georgia added two runs in each of its final three at-bats to pull away. 

Starter Andrew Locklear (LP, 1-2) gave up four earned runs in two innings of work. He pitched into the third as Georgia rallied from an early 2-1 deficit to take a 7-1 lead. 

The Bucs would cut the lead to 8-5 in the sixth when Shelton delievered with his RBI double, but Jarrett Brown struck out Nick Berry to end the threat and CSU could get no closer. 

CSU started fast before being undone by the Bulldogs' big third. 

The Bucs struck in their opening at-bat to take a 1-0 lead. Alex Tomasovich was reached after being hit by a pitch and scored on a single from Nick Berry. 

Georgia took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first as Hunter Cole's RBI double tied the game and an RBI ground out from Zack Bowers gave the Bulldogs their first lead. 

Bulldog left fielder Conor Welton led Georgia going 3-for-4 with two RBI and scoring three times. Stephen Wrenn added a 2-for-5 night and had a two-run triple. 

Catcher Sam Remick and Chase Shelton each had two hits for the Bucs. Relievers Austin Weekley and Joe Pistacchio each worked shutout innings. 

Charleston Southern returns to action on Friday when the Bucs open a three-game series with Toledo. First pitch is at 6 p.m. at CSU Ballpark.
