CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC)
Charleston County deputies say a 31-year-old Walterboro man has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old girl he met on Facebook.
Nathaniel Hampleton is charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.
Hampleton allegedly met the underage victim on Facebook and the two began chatting using the social media site, according to a Charleston County detective. The victim told police that she gave Hampleton her cell phone number so he could text her.
An incident report states the victim told police that one day, after exiting her school bus at the wrong stop, she met Hampleton and got into his car. He drove her to an unknown location near a graveyard where he sexually assaulted her, the victim said.
According to a detective, Hampleton then took her to lunch at a restaurant before returning her to her school so she could ride the bus home.
There was only one instance of sexual assault, the victim said, but was unable to pinpoint the date for police. The incident is believed to have occurred some time between January 31 and February 15, 2013, according to a detective's affidavit.
Hampleton is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing scheduled for Saturday morning.
