Jamez Rogers scored 25 points to lead Wando to its first-ever boys Class 4A state basketball championship with a 65-50 victory over Hillcrest Friday night at the Colonial Life Arena.
The Warriors (25-4) were making their first championship game appearance and used a dominant third quarter to pull away. They held a 22-19 lead when Andrew Glover hit a 3-pointer to ignite a 23-11 run. Wando connected on eight straight shots, including four 3-pointers, during the run.
The Warriors connected on 7 of 11 from long range in the second half and shot 15 of 22 overall in the final two quarters.
The Rams (25-5) would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way. Randall Shaw finished with 16 points and Tyler Hooker added 14.
Amp Moore added 13 points and Andrew Glover chipped in 11 for Wando. Matthew Pegram led the way with 15 rebounds.
