COLUMBIA, SC (WCSC) - A 37-year-old Moncks Corner man was arrested on one count involving the sexual exploitation of a minor, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson said.
Michael Adam Gilman surrendered to authorities on Tuesday, March 4, and admitted to downloading child pornography, according a release from the state's attorney general's office. He was arrested by Berkeley deputies and a member of the Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the release said. Authorities say the charge, third degree sexual exploitation of a minor, is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Wilson's office says undercover detectives with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office downloaded a file containing child pornography from an IP address for a cable account ultimately traced to Gilman's residence. Officers seized three computers and electronic storage media after executing a search warrant at Gilman's home, the report said.
Gilman was assigned a surety bond of $40,000, ordered to have no contact with children under the age of 17 except for his own child and have no access to the Internet or electronic devices capable of accessing it, the report says.
He also must remain at least two blocks from area where children congregate, such as daycare facilities, playgrounds, schools, libraries and public parks, the report says.
